5 Things to do to ‘keep your home happy and healthy during this monsoon’

“Hutchoooooo!!”. The sound of the first sneeze for the season. Monsoon has not even set it yet. But there you go, the first sneeze. Infection alert!

A running nose is not something you would even remotely wish to deal with in life, once monsoons begin. Leave alone your family members having to go through it and if you are the one who would have to take care of them. Monsoons are welcoming but most of the times, the women of the house dread the onset of monsoons. The entire family becomes vulnerable to infections, low immunity, mood-swings and what not!

To keep you tension free this monsoon, here are 5 tips you can follow to stay happy and healthy as a family through the season.

Keep protective gear handy:
Monsoons are unpredictable. It might rain through the night, stop raining in the morning and it will start pouring the same evening. So, ensure that everyone in the house who has to step out has their protective rain gear in place. Especially when you have children at home, take out their raincoats well in advance, dust them off dirt and keep them ready. Cordon off your home and its surroundings for unused materials that might cause mosquito breeding. Ensure cleanliness around your home and your street.

Keep a list of healthy recipes:
Monsoons affect those with low immunity power very soon. To avoid falling ill, download apps for healthy recipes and make a list of food items and snacks that help boost immunity. If they are good enough to be stored, prepare them in advance. A tasty and healthy instant snack for your kids, when they are at home due to rains, will increase the happiness quotient of your house.

Keep a list of indoor entertainment options:
During monsoons, heavy rains can lead to sudden holidays for children and sometimes adults. Pull out the DVD player and those retro movies or cartoon series CDs for some indoor entertainment. Even better, how about digging out the loft for those nostalgic board games like business, monopoly that you can play with your entire family when it is pouring outside.

Keep all electrical and electronic appliances checked:
The intensity of the monsoon is directly proportional to the number of powercuts in many localities. Have you checked your inverter for its annual maintenance routine? Do you have the emergency lamps and battery fans charged? Are all your electrical appliances and wiring safely earthed and externally insulated? These few but essential questions will improve the safety of your home immensely.

Keep your home updated with the ‘Home Health Calculator’:
As the head of your house, you are extremely concerned about the health and happiness of your home.
